Bitchat - A new messaging app that allows users to communicate without internet or cellular services
Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter (X) has unveiled a new messaging app called Bitchat that allows users to communicate without internet or cellular services — no need for: Servers, SIM cards, phone numbers or email addresses.
Built over Bluetooth mesh networks, the app can relay messages through nearby devices, extending its range up to 300 meters. Inspired by tools like Bridgefy, which gained popularity during Hong Kong protests, Bitchat also offers end-to-end encryption.
Dorsey, a long-time advocate for decentralized technology, opened the app for beta testing via Apple TestFlight, which quickly hit its 10,000-user limit. The app is currently under review before its wider release on the App Store.
