Toronto nails salons are warning each other about recent gift-card fraud
Kevin Lý
It happened around 7pm on August 26th. The suspect walked in Studio Nails on Danforth ave and purchased a $100 gift card. He tried to pay in Qpay which may be a stolen card. The nails salon's owner said he entered a $200 tip by mistake on purpose and wanted his money back. The suspect asked for cash back but the salon owner refused. He then asked to get his money returned to another bank card instead of the one. The salon owner was wondering but agreed to do so to please their customer. At the end of the day, the nails salon closed debit, they found out they got a chargeback from the stolen Qpay. The salon lost $600 in total.
The salon owner advised other stores to call and check their bank transactions in such a case.
Suspect: White, male, 5-feet-64-inches. Drive white jeep.
